James Daniels of Apex Designs has been hard at work bringing us the first GTA-style game for the iPhone and iPod touch, Payback ($6.99). In Payback you can jack cars at will just like you could in GTA. You can roam around the large cities exploring the environment or complete the missions to progress the story line. The graphics in Payback are quite nice, they are surprisingly good for mobile standards. I’m really looking forward to getting some more hands on time with this game, from my initial gameplay Payback seems impressive, if you are into GTA style games don’t miss out on this one. TrickySoftware, the developers behind the iPhone port of EA's Spore, have announced their first independent title for the iPhone: Armado. Armado is a port of an existing Mac and PC game which the company has "completely reworked". The developer reports that the engine, artwork and controls have gotten a complete overhaul. The game is a platformer in which the main character runs, rolls, jumps and smashes his way around enemies and obstacles. While it is set in a 3D environment, it does not appear you have free range of movement, and must follow the defined track. Still, it may be just what many have been hoping for on the iPhone. Tilt controls adjust forward and backward movement and also allows for a slight pivot of the camera angle left and right. Meanwhile single and double screen taps provide differing degrees of jumping. This gameplay video shows off the footage from the actual iPhone game. A higher quality QuickTime version is also available
